Fatal Shark Attack in NSW Mid North Coast

Whilst a male surfer aged in his 50's was out in the waves surfing the NSW Mid North Coast, he was unexpectedly bitten in the thigh by a shark.

An ambulance was rushed to the scene at Tuncurry Beach, around 11.15 am on Tuesday.

Paramedics and police officers performed CPR on the man and a specialist medical team in a helicopter flew up from Sydney, but tragically the man was unable to be saved.

Sadly, he died at 12.40 that day.

“Despite the best efforts of paramedics and bystanders at the scene the man could not be resuscitated,” NSW Ambulance said.

“Photographs of the bite are currently being analyzed by DPI shark scientists to try to determine the species and size of the shark involved,” the department said.
